There is something magical about bringing together talented photographers, beautiful locations, inspiring artists, and a little creative imagination.
On May 23, 2026, Curiosity Refresh Workshops brought that vision to life with our Summer Berry Estates Styled Wedding Photography Shootout at the beautiful Westwood Estates, just outside Ponoka, Alberta.
Inspired by the vibrant colours of summer berries, romantic garden florals, and timeless wedding elegance, this photography experience was designed to give photographers an opportunity to explore, experiment, collaborate, and create extraordinary portfolio imagery.
And, of course, we added a few unexpected surprises along the way!
A Summer Wedding Dream in the Alberta Countryside
Nestled among the open prairie landscapes of central Alberta, Westwood Estates provided a stunning setting for our summer-inspired wedding shootout.
With its beautiful architecture, expansive grounds, elegant interiors, and endless photographic possibilities, the venue offered a wonderful combination of refined sophistication and natural Alberta charm.
Owned and operated by three sisters—Megan, Bobbie, and Kristen—Westwood Estates is a beautiful example of the passion and dedication that goes into creating memorable wedding experiences.
For our photographers, the property became a creative playground filled with opportunities to capture everything from intimate bridal portraits to dramatic, editorial-inspired imagery.
Inspired by the Sweetness of Summer
The creative direction behind Summer Berry Estates embraced a rich palette of strawberry reds, raspberry pinks, delicate blush tones, lush greenery, and romantic florals.
Our goal was to create an atmosphere that felt fresh, colourful, elegant, and just a little playful.
Beautifully styled bridal couples, carefully curated wedding details, floral arrangements, decorative cakes, sweet treats, and thoughtfully designed tablescapes came together to create a complete visual wedding story.
Every detail was selected with photography in mind.
From delicate stationery and romantic bouquets to elaborate wedding cakes and elegant bridal styling, photographers had opportunities to capture the smaller details that make wedding photography so meaningful.
The result was an inspiring collection of creative scenes designed to encourage photographers to develop their storytelling, explore new compositions, and expand their wedding portfolios.
More Than Just Wedding Photography
One of our favourite things about Curiosity Refresh Workshops is creating experiences that go beyond the expected.
While wedding photography was the inspiration behind Summer Berry Estates, we wanted to offer our photographers a variety of creative opportunities.
Alongside our beautiful bridal couples, we incorporated maternity portraits and glamorous graduation-inspired photography.
These additional portrait experiences allowed photographers to experiment with different posing techniques, lighting approaches, and storytelling styles throughout the afternoon.
And what would a Curiosity Refresh event be without something a little unexpected?
A hot air balloon!
Working with Air-ristocrat Balloon Rides, we introduced an exciting visual element to our creative vision, bringing another dimension of colour, scale, and photographic possibility to the event.
We also incorporated unique automotive elements, including a beautiful blue convertible Mercedes, adding another opportunity for editorial-inspired portraits.
It was all about encouraging photographers to think creatively, explore different perspectives, and make the most of every photographic opportunity.
Celebrating the Artists Behind the Scenes
A successful styled photography shootout takes an incredible amount of planning, creativity, coordination, and collaboration.
And Summer Berry Estates was certainly no exception!
From the first creative conversations to the final styling details, our talented community of artists and vendors played an essential role in bringing the experience together.
Our floral designs were created by Petal & Blum, whose beautiful arrangements helped establish the romantic, berry-inspired atmosphere.
Our talented cake and dessert contributors included The Frosted Moment, Market West Grocer & Bakery, and Queen Bees Sweets, bringing beautifully crafted wedding cakes and delicious decorative details into our styled scenes.
Black Tie & Bourbon Events Ltd. contributed unique event elements, including the Blue Bell Mobile Bar and blue convertible Mercedes.
Our incredible hair and makeup artists worked behind the scenes to create beautiful looks that complemented the individual models and overall creative direction.
A special thank you to our makeup artists, Chelsey of Confident Beauties and Morgan of Glamour Beauty Bar, and our hairstylists, Pyper and Jenna of Copper Lane, for their talent, creativity, and dedication.
Their artistry helped transform our models into the beautiful brides, graduates, and portrait subjects our photographers were so excited to capture.
